Why should you care about seasonal eating?
Hello and welcome to my digital diary! I figure here is the best place to dive straight into the reason I’ve gathered us all together today: one of my favorite topics, seasonal eating. Now, I get it; seasonal eating might sound a little old-school, and itโs not a rule you have to follow. But for me, itโs one of those small things that has made a big difference.
First and foremost, food just tastes better. That might sound obvious, but when you eat something thatโs in season, itโs often fresher and more flavorful. A summer peach or a fall apple can honestly stop you in your tracks. And because it hasnโt been sitting in storage or shipped across the world, it tends to hold onto more of its nutrients. So youโre getting more from what youโre eating, without doing anything extra.
Another thing Iโve noticedโseasonal eating helps me stay more connected to the time of year. It sounds simple, but when my meals match the season, I feel a little more grounded and connected to nature. Fresh salads in the summer. Cozy soups in the winter. I don’t follow a rigid or strict seasonal diet, but just being a little more intentional and paying more attention to what I’m purchasing and feeding us creates a cozy rhythm I enjoy. And that rhythm can be a foundation for living seasonally in other ways, too.
One unexpected benefit? Fewer decisions. When Iโm choosing from whatโs in season, it cuts down the overwhelm. I donโt need to scroll recipes or stand in the store wondering what to buy. Fewer options actually feels like a relief sometimes.
Of course, not everything has to be seasonal all the time. We all have to do what works best for our lives. But if youโre looking for an easy way to feel a little better, eat a little better, and live more in tune with the seasonsโthis might be worth a try.
